WASHINGTON: Outgoing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, reacting to President-elect Donald Trump's recent comments on Greenland said, it is "not going to happen."
Republican Donald Trump in a free-form news conference in Florida said that the US needed Greenland for "economic security," and refused to rule out force to take control of the Arctic island.
Incumbent US president Joe Biden's top diplomat also underscored the importance of maintaining strong alliances, saying that the United States would remain stronger by working closely with its allies, not alienating them.
However, Blinken is under controversy over funding close ally Israel, for facilitating Gaza genocide.
Blinken refuted Trump, and said that people should "not waste a lot of time."
"The idea expressed about Greenland is obviously not a good one, but maybe more important, it's obviously one that's not going to happen, so we probably shouldn't waste a lot of time talking about it."
Meanwhile, Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede expressed his interest to talk to Trump.
"We are ready to talk. Cooperation is about dialogue. Cooperation means that you will work toward solutions," Egede said.
